Caverns of Allunissa

alt text

Although technically the third quest that has been implemented, this is the first proper quest available. It features a short quest about a legendary artifact: Allunissa. Although it is not an artifact that grants any special powers, it is of great historic value to the people of Hergen. If you wish to read the full story, then you will have to find the in-game book called “Legend of Hergen” somewhere within the caverns~

If you are a playtester, then head over to Hergen and speak to Hergan. If you are not a playtester, well then you will have to wait until the demo is ready to discover what else lies within this cavern…

Sailing the Genwuin

Erios is a large world which has its own history and languages. One language from which most are derived from, is Uvinar. To teach you your first word in Uvinar: “-Uin” means river. Most rivers in the world have an Uvinar name, so try to remember this as Weldanar will feature quite a few of them.

Anyhow, since there is a lot of water, and that the entrance to the cave of Allunissa is quite far away, what’s a better way to go there by using a boat? Well, that now exists.

Boats do feature their own health system. If your boat falls upside down, then it will take damage, and when it reaches 0, it will sink to the bottom. Perhaps one day I will add diving and a rope, as then you can bring it back to shore to repair it.

Sadly this boat, is now stuck on the bottom of the Genwuin until such features exists.

Level Transitioning

alt text

I played a lot of games, yet I never liked loading screens. It takes you out of the flow, and they can take time. Luckily Erios isn’t that heavy on the graphics, so loading levels is quick, yet even then, a loading screen isn’t something that you want. Once you play Erios, you will stay inside Erios until you close the game.

So the solution? Something I call “Level Transitioning”. As the name implies, it will transition you between levels. What actually happens? Well, a level is loaded in the background, and when it is ready, you can see it through a portal. Once you enter the portal, you get teleported to the different level. Once further improved with nice animations, this should give the seamless experience of switching between levels without ever encountering loading screens.

Perhaps if I were a commercial company, I would call it Gateway™. As these larger companies tend to give technologies a name and then trademark it. For me it’s just the Level Transitioning System

Customizing your characters

alt text

You could already create a character in Erios, in fact, multiple even! What you couldn’t do yet, was to customize your character, but hey, now you can. Things you can currently customize:

  • Gender
  • Race
  • StarSign (There are 14 star signs, named after the 14 moons of Erios)
  • Hair
  • Facial
  • Hair Color
  • Facial Color
  • Skin Color
  • Eye Color

Do note that there are some restrictions to the customization options based on the race you have selected. No green skinned shreks in unmodded Erios!

Your character also now starts with some clothes, so no more running around naked at the start of the game. Looks much better in screenshots trying to promote the game as well, instead of the “Caveman” reactions

Message from the developer

Unfortunately this update took a bit longer due to work deadlines, as I had scheduled it for January, but I am still happy with the outcome.

There’s some experimental MacOS builds of Erios now available. Sadly I don’t have such hardware, so if you want to help out the amazing MacOS community of Erios, then feel free to contact me if you want to playtest these MacOS builds!

I will be going on a short vacation to the UK and France, so I will be back at the 18th of February to continue development on Erios, and bring you many more features that are planned! I will decide during my vacation which is next~

And remember, drink lemonade. It’s almost as healthy as water, but with some flavor - Lithrun
